Clubs at Park College
L: Oh,
yes, I want you to tell us about some of the clubs at Park.
You used to have various clubs. I remember seeing in your
year book.
Si:
There were two major clubs in the school in both male and
female. They all belonged to the Lucerne club, and the brother
club was the Lowell. They would have their parties together
and would have their debating team. All their activities were
Lucerne and Lowell. I belonged to Parchevard and Calliopean
was the sister club. And they had the same plan of activities
where they acted as a group, met as a group. And great competition
between the parties.
Mil
(Si's second wife): You belonged to the Lucerne, didn't you,
Mary Lou?
ML:
Yes. It was while you were there, I think, that they started
this third club.
Si:
Yes. Oh, there were certain.. Oh, you were elected to these
clubs, and there were always a few who didn't receive an invitation
to either.
ML:
Oh, I didn't know that
Si:
And a number of the students from all of these four clubs
withdrew from the club where they were, and organized a new
club, and invited everyone who wasn't invited to the major
clubs of the time to join them.
ML:
What was that called?
Si:
That was Orion
ML:
Orion and Aurora.
Mil:
That's right, Mary Lou.
Si:
What is it?
Mil:
Orion and Aurora. That's right. So, later there were six clubs.
I don't know what it is now, do you?
ML:
Well, when I was there, everyone belonged to one.
Si:
Yes. I was wondering whether the clubs were still carrying
on.
ML:
I don't know anything about it.
