Len's uncle

Judah Wolfson was Len's uncle by marriage. He lived until age 106, and was mentally alert nearly to the end. In his late 90's, he dictated many hours of autobiography and commentary, displaying a remarkable memory for detail and flair for dramatic story-telling. Almost no editing was needed.

So far, the transcription totals over 100,000 words. Selected episodes are presented here. —Len

Judah was born in 1891 in Uvarovice, a town near Gomel on the Dnieper River in Russia (now Belarus). He entered the Yeshiva at Rogachov at age 11, but was expelled a year or so later for reasons that may surprise you. He finished at another Yeshiva, and then worked for a time. In 1912, he was inducted into the Russian Army, but very soon left for America.
