Q. Yeah. Okay, now, we go on to page four. Who is that?
A. That's me. I think it is.
Q. It says Fannie at the bottom.
A. Yeah, well, that's me, yeah.
Q. All right, this is Baba Yocheved
[Yocheved was Fannie's stepmother. "Baba" means "grandmother" in Yiddish]

|
Q. Now, who are these boys? You see?
A. One of them is Bernard. That's him. This is Bernard right here.
Q. Bernard is the boy in the black.
A. On this side.
Q. Yeah.
A. And this is the neighbor's grandson, and this is another of the neighbor's grandsons.
Q. Standing up. I see. |
 |
A. That's me.
[In this picture, Fannie's hair is combed and shiny. Contrast it with the picture at the top of the page, where it is uncombed.
Long hair was the style in those days, and was thought to be a very attractive feature of a woman. Short hair came in during the 20s, and was considered shocking by some.]

A. And that's Judah and that's my father.
Q. Oh, yeah, that's blurry too.
|
  |
Q. All right, second row.
A. Also Judah.
Q. Those are all Judah , aren't they?
A. And this is Judah.
Q. Now, who took these, do you know?
A. Well, one of us did. I don't know who.

|
Q. Now, who is this over here? This is a very blurry picture.
A. My coat...I suppose it's me, and this is Judah.
[I find it interesting that Fannie could remember a coat after so many years! Maybe she made it herself.] |
