A place to keep clothes
[Q=Len]
Q. Something I want talk about. Your father was in the bag business, right?
A. Yeah.
Q. Did he have his own horse?
A. Yeah, I suppose he did at first, yeah. He didn't have a car that I can remember. Maybe they did have a car later...truck. I think so.
Q. I know Yocheved had a truck.
A. She did have a truck. Well, then that's...then that's the truck.
Q. January 7th.
A. We got our own home. At that time we bought it. So when we bought the home, we had a bedroom, but we didn't have a dresser, and we slept on one of those couches that opened up. Not like we have now. You know, but it was just one of those couches. Run down on both sides, and we opened it up. We had a bed. And I guess there was a mattress on it.
So, anyway, so we had no place to put our things, so I took a crate from... from oranges or apples. I don't know what it was. And I finished it up with sugar sacks. You know we had the sack business at that time. Finished it up. Oh, what are you turning it down for?
Q. It was just boiling.
A. Well, let it boil. I'm cooking the meat.
Q. It only has to boil. It doesn't have to boil hard. Go ahead, anyway...
A. We had some sugar sacks. You know, the sugar sacks.the white ones, Inside of the sugar sacks. It's one of those. And the outside I found some Paisley stuff, and I trimmed it up. Made it real nice, and it opened...it had a lid, and it opened up, and I padded the lid. It was really nice now that I think of it. Wouldn't think of it doing it now. I remember my father walked up the steps there, and he saw it. And he walked in. He looked at it. He didn't tell me about it. And he asked Yocheved about it, and she told him that I made it, and I could keep our things because we didn't have a dresser, but finally we got a dresser.
Q. This was in Omaha?
A. Yes, sure. My father owned the house. He bought the little house. There was plenty of room in there. Two bedrooms upstairs. I think there was one bedroom that was downstairs too. So, that's that. |
